Common Raccoon (Procyon Iotor)
Photographed on May 23, 2005, along the refuge's Wildlife Loop (map).

This raccoon was heading for the bushes across the trail from the edge of the Snow Goose Pool.

Most raccoons are active at night except during breeding season and when caring for their young. They are also good swimmers. They have a varied diet that may include berries, grass hoppers, crickets, small mammals, eggs and nestlings.
