Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus tyrannus)
Length: about 6.5".
Photographed on May 23, 2005, along the refuge's Wildlife Loop (map) at the edge of Snow Goose Pool.

Abundant in spring and summer and common in the fall, the eastern kingbird feeds on insects and some fruits. This bird is known for aggressively defending its territory from large birds. In late August they migrate to South America.
