The Web Site

This web site is sponsored by Assateague.com and other friends of Assateague and Chincoteague Islands. The site was created to introduce Internet visitors to the natural resources of the islands and to the community of Chincoteague Island. While we do provide some information on the northern portion (Maryland) of Assateague, our focus is on the southern (Virginia) portion of the island accessible from Chincoteague Island.

Assateague.com also created and maintains as a community service (at no cost) the web sites for The Chincoteague Natural History Association, the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce, and The Assateague-Chincoteague Collection .

In most sections of the web site, the approach has been to start with basic information on the plants and animals most often seen by visitors to the island; more thorough information and information on less frequently sighted species will be added as the web site is further developed.

Information on and links to Chincoteague businesses and community organizations are provided at no cost - contact us by email to add a Chincoteague web site to our listings. Contributions of information on the islands and photos are welcome and encouraged.
